David Simms

Did you know that at BEH we employ eight of the 14 allied health professions? Today we would like to introduce you to David Simms, a Specialist Forensic and Mental Health Team Lead Dietitian.

My name is... David Simms.

I work at... Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust as a Specialist Forensic and Mental Health Team Lead Dietitian.

What I love about my job... is the mixture of clinical work and team leading responsibilities. Having a key role in the development of others is a very fulfilling aspect of my role.

An example of a recent intervention... is the quality improvement project I recently started. The project aims to improve the impact of nutrition care plans for service users wanting to lose weight in the forensic mental health service. We are focusing on the learning disability wards to start with, so I have worked closely with the Speech and Language Therapy team to make key resource accessible for service users. This includes a quality of life measurement tool which we will use to assess progress alongside the regular anthropometrics such as weight. The impact of weight on health risk and inequalities has been brought into sharp focus during the COVID-19 pandemic, which further highlighted the importance of this piece of work for me.
