CCTV

CCTV

We operate Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) surveillance cameras across a number of our sites at Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust.

Our CCTV Cameras can be found in our car parks, our public areas, reception areas and waiting rooms.

Some of our staff on some of the wards are also equipped with bodycams which are activated when there is a need to record a security incident.

CCTV cameras have been designated to:

  • ensure the safety and well-being of all those involved on site;
  • prevent crime and assist with identifying, apprehending and prosecuting offenders who commit crime on our sites;
  • provide assistance to the emergency services, including major incidents when necessary;
  • ensure the property of the Trust, our staff, visitors, patients and contracts are safe and secure.

The Trust has implemented this type of surveillance in compliance with the CCTV Code of Practice to ensure that all recordings are used for legitimate purposes only.

Making a request for CCTV images

Any visitor or service user may request to access or view the images we have recorded on site. This is known as a ‘Subject Access Request’ (SAR) and will be processed under the General Data Protection Regulations 2016 (GDPR) / Data Protection Act 2018.

All SARs are free and must be processed within 1 month i.e. 30 calendar days.

When making a request applicants must be clear about:

  • where the CCTV recording took place i.e. the date, time, site and the location of the camera and whether they believe the images were recorded;
  • provide one proof of ID and one proof of address so we can verify your identity.

If the request is not clear, your request will be placed on hold until further details are received.

In the meantime, please do be aware that this legal right gives you no right of access to any  third party images. We will refuse any requests where we do not hold the person’s consent to do this or where disclosure may prejudice any investigation to detect or prosecute crime.

Requests will also be refused where insufficient information is provided or where images cannot be retrieved.

Retention

All CCTV images are retained by the Trust for 31 days.
