Who we are

The Forensic Learning Disability Service is run by the North London Forensic Service.

What we offer

This service offers individual support, education and intervention to families. The interventions will have a specific supportive, educational or treatment function and include negotiated problem solving or relapse prevention/crisis management work. The number and frequency of sessions will be determined by need and will take account of the family’s preference for either single-family intervention or multi-family group intervention, with or without the user.

Some of the issues that families might want help with are an understanding of mental illness, the impact on the family member’s well-being or behaviour, and how they can best support the family member whilst looking after themselves. Sometimes families may be the direct or indirect victims of the family member’s violence, and FIS can offer sessions to help understand the context of this violence and help find ways to prevent similar situations in the future.
