Outsider Music promises night of magic in N8

Date: 03 July 2019 to 29 December 2064

Join in the Outsider Music fun

The public are invited to an evening of songs, music, poems and live performances to celebrate the unique ideas created during the Outsider Music, Music and Wellbeing Therapy Programme.

The event will take place between 7-9pm on 19 July at the Clarendon Centre, Clarendon Road in Haringey.

Participants, who are all service users with Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust, have been working hard with their peers and Jon Hall, a music therapist and record producer, to create performance pieces which reflect some of the chaos, humour, fun and tragedy of their day to day lives.

Funded by the National Lottery, Jonl has taken his expertise and experiences from the acute hospital wards of north London, to a music studio set-up. Here he can use his skills as music therapist and record producer to work alongside and support participants with a wide range of professional resources. The group have spent weeks editing, song writing and supporting each other in their journey of personal expression.

A previous participant has called the project a great success, stating that the live events at the end of the project gives them the chance to ‘celebrate the sound of my own voice’ and the ‘freedom to express myself’.

This event can serve as a platform for people to share their own message and no longer feel isolated. In doing so, this live performance gently invites the public to think differently about their own and others’ pain, confusion, wonder and curiosity.

Jon says: “We hope the public will come along and get a glimpse into the creativity that is part of both the ‘complexity of being human’ and the ‘beauty of being an outsider’.”
