Meet Deirdre Reilly from Barnet Learning Disability Service
Date: 19 June 2020
At Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust we are proud to support Learning Disability Week 2020 which runs from 15-21 June and focuses on the importance of friendships during lockdown.
Today we would like to introduce you to Deirdre Reilly, Lead Psychologist at Barnet Learning Disability Service.
I joined the Barnet Learning Disability as Lead Psychologist in October 2019. I worked in Enfield Learning Disability Team for a number of years before that. I manage a team of 4 psychologists and we also have trainees completing their Doctorate in Clinical Psychology supporting the service. We are based in an integrated health and social care team and have a wide role in supporting colleagues as well as more traditional psychological therapy.
I enjoy that no day is the same. There are some things I do every week but there is always at least one thing I have never been asked about before and I love that. I love finding new solutions to problems and getting people in touch with the right service if ours is not the right one.
During the Learning Disability Week I will be busy at work as things have been extra challenging for lots of individuals in the lockdown. The team were hoping to have an event at the Allianz Stadium so we will be finding a date for the future. I will also use it as an opportunity to find interesting new accounts to follow on Twitter – other health professionals, carers, people with learning disabilities – Ciara Lawrence @ciarle01 is a fun person to follow.
